My DMP 2nd vs 3rd semester

Hello friends! Welcome to my new blog. As you guys know that I am pursuing Digital Media Production at Confederation College, Thunder Bay and I am really enjoying this program. In this blog, I will share everything I learnt in my 2nd semester and what I am learning now in 3rd semester. First, I will tell about my 2nd semester.

Courses I had in 2nd semester:
DM 211 Cinematography
DM 212 Transmedia Storytelling
DM 213 Introduction to Social Media Marketing and Promotions

DM 215 Interviewing Techniques and Personality Development
DM 216 Transmedia Writing and Ethics

DM 211 Cinematography
I studied the art of cinematography and learnt how effective composition, lighting and sound can help influence the story, engage an audience and set a mood. I learnt how to use a variety of cameras and peripheral gear such as sliders, jibs and steady-cams. This course also introduced me to drones and how they are effectively changing establishing shots and roles within the media and movie industries.
DM 212 Transmedia Storytelling
This course was the technique of telling a single story or story experience across multiple platforms and formats. I learnt the current platforms using the latest digital technologies to enhance and expand their storytelling abilities.
DM 213 Introduction to Social Media Marketing and Promotions
Good content always has an objective and is created with intent, especially in the world of marketing. This course provided me with the basic concepts of all the processes involved in getting a product or service to the end user, exploring social media and linear media channels. I also learnt the importance of understanding the culture of the target market to better determine its needs and wants to successfully connect with them through content.
DM 214 Social Journalism
One of the most powerful innovations of the World Wide Web is that it provides everyone the opportunity to tell their own stories. But that does not mean everyone can tell them well. In this course, I learnt how to become better storytellers including the ethical and social responsibilities that go along with it. I reviewed the variety of sources where new stories are told today, from both the social and linear media worlds. The course focused on producing stories from northwestern Ontario and how they relate to the province, the country and the world.
DM 215 Interviewing Techniques and Personality Development
Are you the next YouTube sensation? In this course, I explored and developed their on-air personalities through a variety of platforms and audiences. I also examined past success stories to find out why millions of people follow one person on the web. I learnt the art of interviewing and storytelling through a variety of media to different audiences including creating a live radio end-user experience.
DM 216 Transmedia Writing and Ethics
The “one size fits all” model of storytelling no longer exists. Today, we rely upon many different media to deliver news, content and social interaction. In this course, I challenged their creativity as well as their integrity, told stories using a variety of media including web-based media. I discovered how to develop stories across multiple platforms by customizing, personalizing and creating responsive content. The course also looked at the moral principles behind media writing to taught me how to effectively and ethically influence as well as inform your audiences.

DM 311 Interactive Live Streaming II
This course builds upon the foundation of Interactive Live Streaming I. Taking it on the road, I am experiencing live remotes in the form of music or sports. I continue to develop their skills as they explore the web station’s live interactive environment, creating more advanced live streaming content for end-users in a real-world setting.
DM 312 Documentary Storytelling
Today’s media options are changing documentaries in key ways. However, although the tools and the media of storytelling are evolving, the fundamentals of good storytelling still hold true. In this course, I am working with my peers as a team to bring our story ideas to life. I am learning a number of documentary styles and discovering how they affect the storytelling. I will also complete my own promotional package for distribution or festival entry.
DM 313 Portfolio Development: Discovering Your Brand
In the digital media market of today, your own personal brand is as important as any corporate brand. This course helped me develop my own brand and learn how to position myself in the job market. I am learning the basics including cover letters, resume building and interviewing skills. I am also learning how to skillfully use more advanced methods of developing my brand through social media (including LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter). The course emphasizing how to differentiate myself in the job market to improve my chances of landing my dream position.
DM 314 Sound Design
The audio track is just as important as the video camera when it comes to storytelling. In Sound Design, I am studying the art of sound, understanding the variety of tools available to capture and edit audio, and learning how to create my own sound effects. I put these new skills to use immediately to create a “theatre of the mind” that relies upon sound to carry my story.
DM 315 Compositing and Visual Effects
Visual effects enhance the visual experience and help you tell the story better. In this course, I am moving to the next step in post-production where I begin to develop my compositing and visual effects skills. I am learning the basics of layering, colour-grading and the use of green screen bringing them together digitally creating multi-layer effects.
DM 316 Social Media Marketing
How do we get our target market to share our production, service or idea? Social media has become a key marketing component for many of today’s most successful brands. This course examine various social media strategies used by companies large and small to see how they are reaching their customers. I am also learning about customization, branding, marketing, distribution and promotion, as well as how to adjust the message and marketing channels to my target market.
